Bronze Casting - Ceramic Shell

Bronze Casting - Ceramic Shell

This is - for those who don't recognize it or couldn't figure it out - a ceramic mold or "shell" - used to cast bronze using the lost wax process. The mold is formed by repeated dipping of a wax model into a specially formulated colloidal silica suspension followed by rolling the model in various grades of sand. A picture of the first dip is on the next page.
