Jelly Roll Morton

You read in books and hear on television that 1) Jelly Roll Morton said he invented jazz, and 2) that modern jazz historians pooh-pooh the claim. Actually Jelly's claim was really more of the self-promotion common in the performers of the era, and it's not likely Jelly himself took the claim too seriously.
