Believe it or not, at one time "folk" music was big. It not only sold recordings in the millions but had its own television shows. And not only one-shot specials, but the genre even had its own television series!

And yet, even those who know of the folk revival of the late 1960's may not be aware that a decade before - when Tommy Dorsey and Artie Shaw were still the rage - a folk group had the #1 hit on the charts.
