You'll read that Oliver Wendell Holmes said a certain chap had a second class intellect but a first class temperament. Of course, at the time Oliver had both a 92 year old intellect and temperament, but at least the statement made a good book title.

And you might be a bit suspicious about the quote. After all, with the rise of the

and to paraphrase Mr. Yogi Berra, we learn most people didn't say all the things they said.
